History
The history of aviation-related activities at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering (FEE, CTU in Prague) dates back to the 1970s. The field of aviation instrumentation at the Department of Measurement was established by Assoc. Prof. Karel Draxler, who served as the guarantor of the "Aircraft and Control Instrumentation Systems" specialization until 2014. His work focused primarily on avionics modules for measuring physical quantities on aircraft and on pressure measurement systems. Mr. Draxler was known for his memorable slogans, the most famous of which was aimed at anyone lagging behind on their diploma, doctoral, or habilitation thesis: "At least one page a day".
In 2000, Jan Roháč joined the aviation group, playing a key role in the development and algorithmic implementation of navigation systems and adaptive filtering—specifically, various forms of Kalman filtering. Following his habilitation in 2014, he led the group specializing in aerospace technology, and from 2017 to 2024, he guaranteed the "Aerospace" Master's study program.
Currently, aviation-related activities fall under the "Cybernetics and Robotics" study program at FEE. Courses such as Aircraft Avionics (B(E)3M38PSL1), Integrated Modular Avionics (B(E)3M38INA1), Avionics (FTS, CTU in Prague), and Aircraft and Spacecraft Instrumentation (FME, CTU in Prague), leading of semestral and team projects, bachelor and master thesis are provided by the Navigation and Avionics Laboratory (NavLab) at Department of Measurement.
